Small Friend of the Month

Hi, my name is Samson, I am the charismatic dark dog in the photos, and the other dog is Maya. We are a pair of six year old mini Schnauzers, and this is our story.

MissyMissy

My Mum and Dad had wanted to have some small friends join their family for a long time, so when they moved into their new house they started looking around for some small friends who needed a home. Mum used the internet to search for us and looked at lots of different websites like the Pet Rescue Directory who list fabulous organisations that find homes for small friends. Mum and Dad were registered through ACT Rescue and Foster (ARF) who spotted us at the Domestic Animal Service. Next thing we knew, we had a new home. I kept the name that I came with, but Mum and Dad decided Maya was a good name for my buddy - something to do with their travels to Mexico to see the ancient cities of the Mayan civilization…funny, I didn’t think we were that old!

Since being in our new home we have had an interesting time and gotten to know our friendly vets, Dr Hao and Dr Matt, and all the nurses at Small Friends almost as well as our Mum and Dad. You see we have had a few health problems to sort out. I had to be desexed, have a lump removed and then have emergency surgery as I got very sick very quickly and Mum and Dad thought I had swallowed an earplug! Maya had to have surgery on her ears to repair a haematoma (a blood filled lump caused by a burst blood vessel) that she had caused from all the scratching she was doing due to her inner ear infections, and to remove a foreign body! Hopefully that will be that. As much as we love everyone at Small Friends it would be nice to see them just for social visits and yearly checkups.

We have interests other than Small Friends Veterinary Hospital. Maya loves to redecorate…everything.  Everyday she rearranges things in and out of our kennels, and our beds inside the house. Me, I love my food puzzle ball. I can spend all day just rolling that ball around the yard practicing my soccer moves.  In the morning, we love to have a quick cuddle before Mum and Dad go to work, and we can't wait to play and go for our walk when they get home. Mum and Dad love talking to us, playing with us, and giving us big cuddles when we’re watching TV. Maya's favourite TV shows are Australia’s Funniest Home Videos (animals only) and the Dog Whisperer. We keep Mum and Dad amused with our antics, especially the time we dressed up in party hats and ribbons for Mum's birthday.

So that’s our story. If you see us on our walks down by the pond or around the neighbourhood, please say ‘Hi’.

Cheers
Samson (& Maya)
