How did your owner decide they wanted a small friend and that you would be the right small friend for them?
Erin has always wanted pets and before she got me she’d only had fish. She chose guinea pigs because they are fairly low maintenance, cuddly and small enough that Erin had a chance of being allowed to have one (her dad wasn’t very happy about having pets). I was in a litter of 2, Erin’s sister adopted my sister (Bling). Erin chose me because I was very talkative (just like her!).
Where did your owner find you?
My mum belonged to Erin’s best friend from primary school. Erin and her friend had been secretly planning to adopt me since they first found out that my mum was expecting!
How did your owner choose your name?
Erin thought that Aloha was a great name because it means hello in Hawaiian. Erin always knew that it would be a joy saying hello to me each day because I am her first pet/daughter. She thought a Hawaiian name was a good idea because it reminds her of the carefree beach attitude, peace, lying in the sun, and lots of fruit!!! YUMMY!!!!!!!
What do you enjoy doing?
Lazing about in the sun, jumping around (popcorning), running laps, EATING, talking to birds through the wire of my house, getting cuddles, exploring Erin’s bedroom, hiding in blankets and tunnelling through hay (just to name a few)
Do you have a favourite treat, or places?
My favourite treats include CELERY (my favourite!!), watermelon rinds and parsley. My favourite places are my hidey-hole (made out of a stool), the pillows on Erin’s bed, Erin’s arms, and my travel bag.
What do you think makes you so special to your owner?
I’m very talkative (just like her), we both LOVE fruit (and celery!!), I’m her first non-aquatic pet, it took a LOT of effort for Erin to convince her dad to adopt me, AND I’ve put up with her clarinet playing. I’m Erin’s daughter and I have been with her through a very crazy period in her life. In my lifetime she has changed schools 3 times, moved house/state, adopted a dog and everything else that goes on in a teenage girl’s life. I was also with her when she adopted her dog.
Are there any funny or interesting stories about you that you can share with us?
Erin was being a good little model student (or nerd, however you want to see it) and was doing her chemistry homework when she discovered that my uterus had fallen out!!!! I had a large mass in my uterus and it caused it to turn inside out!! My surgery was very risky, especially for someone my size. I ended up having my uterus and ovaries removed by Dr Matt at Small Friends. I was left with 8 staples, but I was a good girl and didn’t chew them. Erin also takes me around Gungahlin in my travel bag so I can experience the world. I love it!! We sometimes get weird stares though, because it looks like Erin is talking to a bag!! hahaha. I wish I could go to school with Erin, but she tells me that maths and chemistry should be avoided at all costs!!
