How did your owner decide they wanted a small friend and that you would be the right small friend for them?
My Mum and Dad had a dearly beloved dachshund, Marlin, that they unfortunately lost at a young age. After much discussion they decided that the best way to help heal their hearts would be to have the love of another dog. They went back and forth for months trying to decide what breed of dog would be suitable for them, but they couldn’t go past the independent, fiercely loyal, intelligent and cartoon-like nature of another dachshund. My mum said that when she met me, she instantly fell in love and felt her heart swell and the hole in her heart, from losing Marlin, start to shrink.
Where did your owner find you?
I came into my Mum and Dads life exactly at the right time… My Mum is a strong believer in arming yourself with as much knowledge and research when making a decision as big as adding a new member to your family. She contacted the Dachshund Club of Australia to find out who they would recommend contacting to find the perfect family member, and sure enough a very well-respected member of the club had a little black and tan boy – exactly what they wanted! To save my Mum and Dad any heartache my grandparents went and met me first. She sent them there with a long list of exactly what to look for and when they came back “raving” about what a dear, sweet and perfect little boy I was she knew I was for them! Mum begged her boss for the half day off, drove 3 hours (Googong to Bargo) and felt an instant sense of relief once I was in the car, and we could begin our adventures together!
How did your owner choose your name?
I am named after the fish, of course! My Dad use to work as a charter boat fisherman and it was a long-planned idea that they would continue a tradition of naming their dogs after fish…I love my unique name and they definitely ticked that box with our funny fish names. Just in case you wanted to know my middle name is Chandler, my breeder gave me that name!
What do you enjoy doing?
My absolute favourite thing is to stand under the running shower! Odd, I know….
Do you have a favourite treat, spot or toy?
My favourite place is to sit is in the back yard, next to my best friend, our bunny rabbit…unfortunately, the love that I have for BunBun is not reciprocated.
What do you think makes you so special to your owner?
My gentle nature is exactly what my mum and dad needed when they lost their dear Marlin. Every day I see them smile more and more as I light up their life.
Are there any funny or interesting stories about you that you can share with us?
When my mum picked me up… I cried most of the way home! My mum had to keep stopping as safely as she could right on the highway just to give me a little hug. It took my Mum much longer to get home than it was meant to because we had to stop so many times. The louder she would turn the music up the louder I would get, I guess I am a bit of softy, but that’s ok – my Mum loves hugs.
