How did you owner decide they wanted a small friend and that you would be the right small friend for them?
My Mum has had guinea pigs her whole life and my parents already had four guinea pigs when they adopted me. They had a guinea pig called Lagertha who had ovarian cysts and passed away during surgery, leaving her friend, fellow guinea pig Claire. My parents took Claire to Miss Piggy’s Guinea Pig Lair (in Queensland where we are originally from). After many failed attempts to find a new Guinea Pig friend Claire decided I was the one for her. I was the only guinea pig she got along with.
Where did your owner find you?
I was adopted from Miss Piggy’s Guinea Pig Lair where I was surrendered due to being unwanted. I was living in a small dirty cage with three other female guinea pigs. I was malnourished and angry. I weighed 650g. With the correct diet and love, I now weight 1kg!
How did your owner choose your name?
I was originally named ‘Ruby’ at the guinea pig sanctuary because of my ruby coloured eyes. My parents then added Rose to make it ‘Ruby Rose’.
What do you enjoy doing?
I love going outside and eating grass and sunbaking in my outdoor cage (supervised of course). I love snack time and stretch so high on the cage to reach for them.
Do you have a favourite treat, spot or toy?
My favourite treat is Oxbow urinary support tablets and strawberries. You can find me on a lazy Sunday afternoon sleeping on my hammock or in my big piggy.
What do you think makes you so special to your owner?
When I was adopted I was angry, hungry and didn’t trust anyone. I have slowly been able to let other guinea pigs and humans into my life. I recently developed an ovarian cyst and as it was developing Mum and Dad got very close to me and worried they would lose me like they lost Lagertha. Fortunately, the cyst was removed by Small Friends Vet and I was successfully spayed. I have continued to grow into a happy, gentle and plump piggy who enjoys cuddles and pats.
Are there any funny or interesting stories about you that you can share with us?
If you cuddle me for 10 minutes you are bound to have a collection of poops – say 15 on a good day! I get very excited when my parents open the hay tub. I popcorn so high and buck like a bull!
