How did your owner decide they wanted a small friend and that you would be the right small friend for them?
My owner had had a Burmese cat before, it was her family pet. After that pet passed on (at age 16), my owner Carol felt a bit lonely without a small friend in the house. So she got me and my sister Coco so we could be her new friends. I’m glad she got two cats so we wouldn’t be lonely when she went to work. It’s great to have another cat to play with – even if it is my sister.
Where did your owner find you?
She found us through the Internet – on the Capital Cats Incorporated website. Our breeder lives in Weetangera.
How did your owner choose your name?
Well, when Carol first brought me and my sister home, she had already decided to call my sister Coco. I think Coco liked this because as soon as the door to the cat carrier was opened, Coco was out like a shot, ready to explore. I was a bit more hesitant…. not scared… just cautious. After all, I was only 8 weeks old and everything was so new – wouldn’t you be scared? So Carol decided to name me Zeus (like Zeus the ruler of the Greek gods) – she said that I would either grow into my name or that it would be like calling a fat bloke ‘Tiny’. I am super brave now – kind of!
What do you enjoy doing?
I love love love! playing fetch. Its true – cats can play fetch too – but only the super smart ones like me! We even play fetch at 3 in the morning if I can manage to wake Carol up. I also love helping out around the house – changing the bed linen is my favourite. So many sheets to run under and pockets of air to chase! My other favourite thing to do is get into boxes. I love jumping in, sleeping, playing in and chewing on boxes of all shapes and sizes – even the cat carrier! When Coco has needed to go visit Dr Matt and Dr Mel and all our other friends at Small Friends Veterinary Hospital, I make sure I get in the cat carrier too. It doesn’t matter that I’m not sick – I just want to be in the box!
Do you have a favourite treat, spot or toy?
My favourite toys are soft play balls that I can chase and carry in my mouth – they are great to play fetch with! I love getting a chicken neck as a tasty treat and my favourite spot to be is curled up on top of the scratching post.
What do you think makes you so special to your owner?
My winning personality of course! Add to that my good looks, my boy-ish charm, my love and affection – and the fact that I’m really humble (not). What’s not to love about me?
Are there any funny or interesting stories about you that you can share with us?
Well, there is one story I could share – but it’s a bit embarrassing. Around 6 months ago, I started to get a real itch to explore – I wanted to be up high and see everything! So I started jumping up on things – anything I could find really. Chairs, couches, people – you name it, I wanted to stand on top of it and check things out. It didn’t matter if I got sprayed with water or if Carol got cranky – I decided that it was my house and I wanted to explore every inch of it. One day I managed to jump from the floor, to the chair, to the kitchen bench, across the gap to the opposite bench, up on top of the fridge and then finally up on top of the overhead cupboards. It was fantastic – I could see everything! I was so close to the roof that my head was bumping on the ceiling just when I was walking about – I didn’t even need to stretch! But I soon discovered it was a harder to get down than it was to get up. In fact I was stuck! I meowed and howled and made every noise I could think of until Carol finally came home from work – it wasn’t nice being stuck up so high. Carol got me down OK in the end. The embarrassing part wasn’t getting stuck that first time – it’s that I kept getting stuck up there every time! I climbed up every day for a week, and every day that week when Carol got home she had to rescue me from my own climbing and exploring. How embarrassing is that?
